VFGP Agricultural Production Corporation

AGRICULTURAL REVOLUTION
VFGP is revolutionizing agriculture with innovation and action.

CONCEPT

A place to connect with people, nature, and the earth.

VFGP stands for “Vegetable,” “Fruits,” and “GeoPark.” We promote a lifestyle that connects people with nature and the earth. To address Japan’s food challenges, we grow pesticide-free vegetables and fruits using a new, sustainable farming style.

In Onjuku, Chiba, VFGP practices sustainable farming using the Machida-style hydroponics system in partnership with the local community. By integrating tourism and education, we aim to revitalize the area and nurture future leaders. Our efforts also support the SDGs by promoting harmony between nature, ecosystems, and human life.

ACTIVITIES

Onjuku’s new “Agri × Tourism × Education” model.

VFGP is developing a next-generation revitalization model in Onjuku, Chiba, centered on hydroponic melon farming. In collaboration with a tourism company and a correspondence high school, we aim to create a new regional brand—the “Onjuku Model”—that fuses tourism, education, and primary industry.

VFGP grows sweet melons via Machida-style hydroponics, promotes youth farming through education, supports senior-friendly jobs, and revitalizes unused farmland through local collaboration and product development.

Aiming to build a sustainable local economy, we share the appeal of Onjuku with Japan and the world.

What is the Machida-Style Hydroponics Method?
Developed through collaboration between the Machida Chamber of Commerce and local businesses in Tokyo, the Machida-style hydroponics system is the world’s first to successfully grow melons hydroponically. Its unique radial design circulates water and nutrients evenly, ensuring oxygen and nourishment reach even densely packed roots. This allows for stable harvests of high-sugar melons—up to 30–50 fruits per plant, three times a year. The adjustable height of the cultivation beds also makes it a senior-friendly, labor-saving farming style. It’s gaining attention as a new, sustainable, and high-value agricultural method.
